There has been a significant increase in the number of crimes occurring in Costa Rica. The tourists visiting Costa Rica engage in petty thefts and these are becoming a regular phenomenon in Costa Rica. Most of the thefts take place on beaches, hotel rooms and luggage compartments. Ed Mercer, the “Co Owner of Ventana Del Pacifico” and one of the leading figures of Costa Rica as well as a humanitarian at heart, is perturbed by such activities and has made a lot of efforts towards the betterment of society in this country.
Alarmed by the dramatic rise in the incidence of crimes in Costa Rica, a prominent figure in Costa Rica named Ed Mercer has vigorously led advocacy activities to make the country a better place to live. As a result, some 120 officers were deployed on the beaches to prevent incidence of thefts. These officers were trained to speak the English Language to effectively deal with tourists who were victimized by thieves. This resulted to 20% decrease in the crime rates. Some 250 more officers were deployed in starting 2008 to help curb incidence of thefts on the country’s beaches and tourist destinations.
Ed Mercer contributes regularly to magazines such as the Performance Magazine with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Cosby. Being a self made entrepreneur, he considers himself to be a humble business student. He has an amazing sense of business and can take any business today to extreme heights of success. He follows the highest standards in all his projects, whether it is his real estate business, construction, or protection of wildlife.
As a result of his advocacies on petty crimes, some 120 officers were deployed on beaches to protect the vacationers from thieves. Another 250 more officers helped in intensified efforts to protect tourists from pickpockets. This resulted to a 20% decrease in crime rates starting the year 2008.
Costa Rica is home to rare species like sea turtles, scarlet macaws and white-faced monkeys which were already considered endangered. Ed’s passion for preserving the country’s natural beauty and the richness of its resources inspired him to lead efforts to rehabilitate and protect the natural habitat of these endangered species. Motivated by his golden philosophy in life to under promise and over-deliver, he established protected areas in the region to save the wildlife from extinction. Thousands of Almond trees were planted to provide food and natural shelter for the wildlife. Forest guards were deployed to protect the wildlife from illegal hunting and poaching. People of Costa Rica can now enjoy the beautiful sceneries, hear the chirping birds and view the wildlife in these protected zones.
However, the crime rate in Costa Rica is lower as compared to countries in Latin America. Even though Costa Rica is akin to paradise in beauty, you need not ignore the fact that it is another normal country similar to other countries of the world. Therefore, tourists need to be extra careful at such times. Foreigners are easily recognized in crowded areas and may be easy targets for pick pocketers. People need to avoid flashy jewelery as this draws attention to oneself. Avoid wearing expensive items as it may cost you to lose them and spoil your vacation mood completely. Tourists can make a photocopy of important documents such as airline tickets, passports and other documents and leave it in their hotel room locker and should carry photocopies instead of the originals. Keeping such things in mind and being a little careful can go a long way in making your vacation in Costa Rica a successful and enjoyable one.
